As early as 1650 virtually every sugar plantation in Barbados had a rum distillery attached and Clifton Hall Plantation of which the earliest record is a 1656 mortgage was no exception.

This rum has been selected by Massimo Franchi, the owner of The Great House, from the reserves of the renowned Foursquare Distillery. It is released as a tribute to the Estate’s glorious rum making past.

Technical Description

A rum made from artisanal pot distillation and traditional twin column distillation, the rum has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels of American oak for a full 12 years.

Tasting Notes

Coppery gold in the glass, vanilla, butterscotch fudge, allspice, caramel, and light buttery oak are in the initial aroma. A little citrus peel follows along after with more vanilla. On the palate a lovely balance of smokey oak, spices and citrus. The citrus is backed by some raspberry and banana, then vanilla and caramel. Subsequent sips yield a bit of nuttiness. Long elegant warm finish. A fine example of a complex mature rum that can hold its own against whiskies twice its age.
